12 Days of Healthy Christmas

DAY 12 OF 12

“The Wise Find the Christ of Christmas”

As we approach Christmas Day, we prepare for the day in so many ways. We plan for Christmas dinner and our Christmas Eve gathering. We rush from store to store, purchasing the perfect gifts for our loved ones, and even celebrate the season with various traditions that all of us enjoy so much.

I love all of it. I love purchasing the right gifts for my family members. I love the baking, the parties, the Christmas television specials, especially the old ones like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Each year my own family drives through parts of Pasadena called Hastings Ranch, where the streets are all decorated with Christmas themes. One street has a Christmas tree theme, another a Santa. Street after street has different themes with incredible displays all across the lawns, and on some houses thousands and thousands of lights. We drive to a Starbucks and all of us get coffees. We then spend the next 90 minutes or so driving the streets, listening to Christmas music, and finally end up at the Balian Mansion, where the Christ-themed Christmas lights are simply fabulous. Basically, throughout the Christmas season, the sidewalks surrounding their home are lined with people laughing, celebrating, and taking pictures.

I truly do celebrate all these experiences.

But many of us have these experiences and simply live our lives just as the people of Judea were living without acknowledging the Savior. Still, others do not have the understanding of the significance of the birth.

The Jews of Jesus’ day did not recognize what was happening in their own community and it took foreign wise men from the east to inform them of Jesus’ birth.

For us to live healthy lives, for us to break away from the things that hold us back from being all that God desires us to be, we must seek, find, and worship Jesus. Whether held back by overeating or other obsessive behaviors that causes us to lose a healthy focus, or held back by deeper wounds like grief, bitterness, and rage, we are unable to embrace God’s greatest destiny for our lives.

Let’s celebrate this Christmas by living the free life Jesus promised.

Health Tip: Healthy Christmas = Active Christmas, Unhealthy Christmas = Sedentary Christmas
