Sharing God: Reflections on 2 Corinthians 5:11-21ናሙና
DAILY SCRIPTURE
Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. (2 Corinthians 5:11a NIV)
THE POWER OF PRAYER
As we share the message of reconciliation, we must never forget or underestimate the power and significance of our prayers. For, “…The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (See James 5:16 NIV.) In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) we see a connection between prayer for all people and God’s heart for all to know Him,
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
As God’s people, we are called to impact individuals, families, friendship groups, workplaces, communities, towns, cities and nations for God’s glory. In Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV), the Lord says to His people,
"Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Let us genuinely and regularly pray for all areas of our society. There is something about praying earnestly for the good of the places that God has planted us that creates an atmosphere where people can encounter the love and truth of God for themselves. Prayer is one of the best things we can contribute to our world.
THOUGHTS FOR PRAYER AND REFLECTION
• Spend some time praying for an area of society that God places on your heart (e.g. government, education, hospitality etc.).
