Next Step for Young People With Conviction

DAY 4 OF 7

Home Alone

There they sat, Greg and his girlfriend Vicky, in Greg's car. They just had a great time watching a movie with friends, and Greg was dropping Vicky off at her home. They had been dating for just over a year now, and Greg was feeling like he had gotten the hang of this dating with boundaries thing.

Early in their relationship, Greg and Vicky's pastor had talked to them about having boundaries in their relationship. Even though it seemed like so many of their friends in school had physical relationships, Greg and Vicky had made the choice not to be physical in their relationship.

Although Greg, every so often, had very strong desires to be physical with Vicky, he had still been able to control himself. He was proud of himself because he thought he had conquered his desires. So when Greg dropped Vicky off at her house, he asked to come in for some water, even though he knew that Vicky's parents weren't home, and Vicky trustingly let him in.

One thing led to another and that night all their promises were broken as they crossed one boundary after another. Greg and Vicky put themselves in a position for possible failure. Drinking a glass of water was not wrong, but they put themselves in a risky position where there was no accountability.

We make the same mistake as well. We go out with the wrong friends and think that they won't affect us, but we end up being wrong. We need to learn to have boundaries and stick to those boundaries no matter what—even if we think we can handle ourselves.

Discussion:

What boundaries do you need to set up with your relationships, social media, or even laptop?
