DAY 7 OF 10

Day 7 - The Discipline of Serving

In serving Him, a child of God doesn’t need a sceptre, but a towel. We don’t need positions, we need to humble ourselves and use a washing bowl.

In the evening when He was betrayed, Jesus gave His disciples a last parable. He gives Himself as an example. He gets up from the table, He takes off His outer clothing, He wraps a towel around His waist, making Himself like an insignificant servant.

After that, in total silence, yet ever so loudly for them, He poured water into a basin, washes the disciples feet and dries them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.

Jesus completely overturns a custom, He abolished the custom that the least important be the servant of the most important. If then, and even now, the least serves the greatest, in God’s Kingdom things are exactly the opposite. This is one of the Kingdom's paradoxes.

Because we have the example of the world right under our noses, many times it's hard for us to serve following Christ’s model.

“If I humble myself, the others will believe that they are superior to me.”

But, isn’t it God’s opinion the one that matters?

The ones that humble themselves, becoming the slave of all, will be exalted by God!

God offers us the privilege of serving! His work does not depend on any of us. The beauty is that God chose to do His work through us, because it is so beneficial for us.

If Jesus Christ, our Lord and Teacher, washed the feet of His disciples, giving us an example, we have to get out of our comfort zone, deny ourselves, pick up a towel and serve.
