Growing in Hope

DAY 32 OF 43

God Can do Far More

Ephesians 3:14-21 is the Apostle Paul’s prayer for you and me. He begins by bowing down, humbling himself before the most-high God; the one true God who is above all and over all. Paul then hits on some key points for us.

1. He asks God to strengthen us with power by God’s Holy Spirit. As we talked about in earlier lessons, God sent the Holy Spirit to help us live the Christian life.

2. He asks that we be rooted and grounded in love. It is important for us to begin understanding how great God’s love is for us. Paul speaks in four dimensions when he says, “breadth, length, height and depth”. That is great love. He then prays the “love of Christ would surpass knowledge”. Jesus’ love for us is greater than we can understand.

3. Next, he prays that we would be “filled up to all the fullness of God”. Paul wants us to be filled to fullness with God’s Holy Spirit. In Luke 11:5-13, Jesus tells us to ask and believe that God can and will fill us with the fullness of His Spirit. Think of a full glass of water. Full to us often means there is some room left at the top so we don’t spill it. The fullness Paul is describing leaves no room left at the top. Fullness to Paul is complete fullness. It’s less of us and more of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

4. Paul then says that through the fullness of God’s Holy Spirit in us, God can “do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think”. Paul tells us that not only can God do more than you could ask or think, but “far more abundantly beyond” all you could ask or think.

Lastly, he tells us that whatever God does in and through us is not for our glory, but for His glory.

Do you believe God can do “far more abundantly beyond” all that you could ask or think?

Do you believe He will do it?

Prayer:
Let the lyrics of this song be your prayer today… “I want more of You, God.” Begin to pray daily as Paul prays in this passage. Ask God to strengthen you with His power, to ground you in His love, to fill you up with all of His fullness, to do far more abundantly than you can ask or think, and to be glorified in your life!
