Growing in Hope

DAY 20 OF 43

The Holy Spirit is Your Comforter

Some translations of the Bible use the word “Comforter” instead of “Helper”. The Holy Spirit is inside of you to comfort you. Jesus told us in His absence that He would send the Holy Spirit to live in us. This gives us comfort knowing that God is always with us, no matter the circumstances.

No matter how bad things get in your life, you can always trust that the Holy Spirit is there to comfort you. Jesus said in the second part of John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit will “bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

In the darkest of times, the Holy Spirit will remind you that:

God loves you. (John 3:16).

Jesus died for you. (Romans 5:8)

Jesus will not leave you. (Hebrews 13:5)

Jesus has prepared a place for you in Heaven and will return for you. (John 14:3)

These reminders from the Holy Spirit are reinforced by God’s Word, and remembering these promises will help you not despair as you look at your outward circumstances. They will remind you that there is hope that comes from God’s love for you. He, The Holy Spirit, will remind you that you are not alone and that no matter what comes your way in this life, you can have hope because you have a future beyond your earthly life.

Prayer:
Gracious and loving God, I thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to comfort me when I face troubles in this life. The hope I have in my heart I know comes from Your Holy Spirit. I pray You will continue to remind me that You will never leave me, abandon, or forsake me in challenging times, and that I can always lean on You when I am hurting. Thank You for being ever faithful and always present. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
