Love God Greatly: RisenSample

Love God Greatly: Risen

DAY 38 OF 40

Determining the purpose and intent of the writers and authors of the Bible, though valuable and important, can be difficult, exhausting work. That’s why it is refreshing when a writer clearly explained the intentions behind why they wrote what they did. John did this at the end of his gospel, after giving a detailed account of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, John wrote the words of his gospel, particularly the account of the resurrection of Jesus, so that we would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. He wrote these words so that we would believe in Him and that we would have life by believing in His name. How gracious of God to not only reveal Himself through His Son but also clearly explain to us the purpose of sending Him: that we may have life in His name.

The resurrection changes everything. It gives us life today and life eternally. May we always be encouraged and overwhelmed with hope when we read these words.

Lord Jesus, thank You for clearly revealing Yourself in Your resurrection. Thank You for making it clear to us why You had John and the other authors of the gospels record what they did. Thank You for making these wonderful truths available to us, and for allowing me to live in a time and place where I can read and understand Your Word. Amen.
