DAY 10 OF 50

A Faithful Man, Who Can Find?

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? Proverbs 20:6 KJV

One of the toughest challenges most business leaders face is finding great staff. It can sometimes seem like all the good guys are taken. This scarcity of great people is one of the more popular gripes that come up when business leaders meet. It is clearly a shared grief.

Yet there are people who seem to be able to just attract the most amazing people to their causes. One of the most poignant accounts of loyalty recorded in the Bible is the one in which three of David's men who at the mere wistful wish for a drink risked their lives to break through enemy lines to go fetch the king a jar of water from a particular well. (2 Samuel 23:15-19)

What makes a man go all out to please his leader, even at the risk of life? Whatever it is, King David clearly had it in great measure. He inspired a ragtag bunch of ne'er-do-wells to become one of the most formidable fighting units recorded in the Bible.

David was clearly an inspirational character. Even God described him as a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22). The question is, what was it about David that endeared him to God and men? And can the business leader cultivate and exhibit this character in his business?

Two things stand out in David's character that inspired men; his empathy (1 Samuel 30:10, 21-25), and courage. Now courage is the manifestation of integrity and truth at the point of their trial. It can be said that these same attributes define the life of Jesus for He was full of compassion and integrity. "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."  (John 1: 14 KJV)

Nothing inspires loyalty from men more than the knowledge that you care, and can be trusted.
