MOMentum: In Faith & Motherhoodናሙና
A few nights ago, I couldn’t sleep. As I tossed and turned my mind was creating a to-do list for the week ahead. Even with all the lights off in the house, I could almost see the dishes in the sink, clean laundry piled high, and the remnants of a fort, toys, socks, and shoes littered across the house. The counter was covered in mail and miscellaneous items that someone had picked up off the floor only to place it on the catch-all space. I dared not check my phone calendar because I already knew that we had commitments every day that week. A full schedule; a messy house; a pile of bills; an empty tank.
In that moment, the Holy Spirit prompted one line from Lord’s prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11 ESV. Sustenance. Provision. In the Old Testament, when the Israelites wandered in the desert they begged to head back to Egypt where the food was plentiful. Instead, God heard their outcry and bread fell from the sky. They didn’t store up for the week ahead but collected enough to carry them through the day. One day at a time.
In that moment, my needs were not physical, but emotional and spiritual. Looking ahead left me feeling overwhelmed, but Jesus whispered, “Give us this day…” Take it one day at a time. Come to God for your daily needs.
Think about your emotional tank. On a scale of one to ten, where are you today? A two? A three? An eight? Ask God to give you today your daily bread - whatever it is that you need that has left you feeling empty - and that He fills your tank the rest of the way.
