Go Bold
Sarah Roberts
Ready:
“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Acts 4:31
Set:
During the 2018 Women’s College World Series, Florida State athlete, Tessa Daniels received an academic award at the awards banquet. Surprised at receiving this award, Tessa made her way to the stage in front of all eight teams and took advantage of this opportunity God gave her to speak boldly about her faith in Christ. Her speech and hashtag she created (#8Teams1King) went viral and encouraged thousands across the world. Amazing enough, Tessa had tried to have a chapel service for all the teams but nothing worked out, she wasn’t a starter, and didn’t dress out during the World Series. She was a student-athlete that God used to change the world because she was willing to speak Bold words from the Bench.
The disciples had been given a similar opportunity to speak boldly before the Religious leaders in Acts 4:13, “The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures.”
We are all called to Go Bold when speaking about Jesus and living for Jesus. God is not just looking for the best athletes on our teams or the people with the most training in the Scriptures but for the ones that will GO BOLD in their relationship with Jesus.
Go:
1. Who has been someone on your team that has been bold with their faith? How did you witness their boldness?
2. What is it about Tessa and the disciples boldness that encourages you?
3. How can you Go Bold on your team?
Workout:
1 Timothy 4:12
Ephesians 5:2
Overtime:
“Lord, thank you for the platform of athletics. Help me in using this platform to speak boldly about you and to live my life for you.”
