Hot Mess - Thriving As A Momናሙና
YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE
What is it that drives us to feel like we have to do it all, or have everything together? For many moms, it’s a false belief that what they do defines who they are. So if you are the do-it-all superwoman...congratulations you’re a good mom. If you’re not, then please try a little harder because you’re letting the family down. Seriously, this is how we all feel, right? To those who feel like a failure because they can’t finish everything on their to-do list, rest in the beautiful words of
John 19:30: “It is finished!”
As Jesus drew His final breaths upon the cross, he cried out “It is finished!” And while there is so much to unpack from this cry, one thing is for certain: Jesus finished the work of redemption! Our strength comes not from what we do, but what He has done.
In many ways, the cross appeared to be a failure. The innocent Son of God hung beaten and bloody, mocked and humiliated. But appearances are often deceiving… what looked like a failure was actually a triumph. Jesus died so that we could live and He gave us the gift of a new life made available by faith in Him!
Perhaps the very best thing you could do today is to take your eyes off your hot mess moments and fix your eyes upon God. As you do, you’ll be reminded that appearances aren’t everything. And that oftentimes, the greatest of victories can be found in the messiest of situations.
Reflection:
What was the last event that made you feel like a failure? Do you believe that what Jesus has already done is greater than anything you could ever do?
Prayer:
Father, help me to fix my eyes on Jesus. I confess that, too often, I focus on my actions rather than His. Remind me that in Christ, I am victorious!
