Good gifts to His children

When you pray, always remember to whom you are talking. The God to whom you are praying He loves you unconditionally, because He is your Father. He does not hesitate to demonstrate His love, either. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” Jesus told Nicodemus (John 3:16, NIV).

Just as an earthly father gives good gifts to his children, God will give His children good things in response to prayer. However, just as God is greater than an earthly father, He will respond to our requests—and give us much more than we ask or imagine. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory,” writes Paul in Ephesians 3:20–21 (NIV).

God is therefore able to give you much more than you ask of Him in prayer, provided you will always remember that the promises in His Word apply to His children only. Your prayers will therefore be answered only if you are in the right relationship with your heavenly Father. Just as an earthly father sometimes withholds privileges from a disobedient child, you cannot expect to have your prayers answered if you refuse to obey God.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You because You are able to give me much more than I ask—grant that I will obey You so that You will answer my prayers. Amen.
