Guide Your Mind-Guard Your Heart-Grace Your Tongue

DAY 16 OF 21

When you speak God’s Word over people, when you convey words of kindness, when you choose to be positive rather than negative, and when you bless others even in the face of cruel treatment, the Bible says that you will receive life! Not only do your words have the power to declare life or death as they cascade out of your mouth, but they are also cooking up a recipe for your life. You are going to eat your words someday, whether you like them or not!

The words that you choose to speak in moments of searing emotion and of tremendous disappointment are planting the crops for your future; the words that come out of your oral cavity will determine the harvest in your life that you will eventually either enjoy or detest. If you open your lips wide and say whatever you feel like in the moment, you are setting yourself up for destruction. You have the power to destroy your life with words of venom, impatience, and anger.

Remind yourself daily and in every stressful situation that your words have the capacity to determine your very destiny. Don’t allow your tongue to have a free-for-all lifestyle but give it strict boundaries that are set by your mind, which now thinks the thoughts of Christ, and by your heart, which is extremely well-guarded by the Word of God. Your mind gives your mouth fodder from which to speak, and your heart is the motor that kick-starts your mouth.

If you don’t think something, you will never say it, and if you don’t feel something, you will never speak it! The only dictionary from which you extract the words that you are allowed to speak should be the Bible!

Personal Application: If your tongue has been out of control—either as a habit or in a recent stressful situation—ask your heavenly Father to forgive you according to the sacrifice of Jesus on your behalf and to help you learn to speak words of grace and life, no matter what the circumstances.
