In die sesde maand van Elisabet se swangerskap het God die engel Gabriël na Nasaret toe gestuur, ’n dorp in Galilea. Hy moes ’n belangrike boodskap na ’n meisie toe neem wat daar gebly het. Haar naam was Maria. Sy het nog nie seksuele gemeenskap met ’n man gehad nie. Sy was verloof aan Josef, ’n man uit die nageslag van koning Dawid. Toe Gabriël by Maria aankom, het hy haar gegroet en gesê: “Goeiedag. Ek het baie goeie nuus vir jou. Die Here het groot genade aan jou bewys. Hy is by jou!” Maria was baie verbaas oor sy woorde. “Wat is aan die gang?” het sy haar afgevra.

Slow down and savor time with the Savior this season. Choose to pause and ponder as Mary did, to get lost in the wonder of Immanuel, of God with us. This year, let it be simply Christmas.
