Hy sal baie belangrik wees, die Hoogste God sal Hom sy Seun noem. Die Here God sal Hom laat regeer soos sy voorvader Dawid. Jesus sal altyd regeer oor die nageslag van Jakob. Hy sal nooit ophou om Koning te wees nie.” Maria het vir die engel gesê: “Hoe kan ek 'n kind kry? Ek het nog nooit by 'n man geslaap nie.” Die engel het vir haar gesê: “Die Heilige Gees sal op jou kom en die krag van die Hoogste God sal soos 'n skaduwee oor jou wees. Daarom sal God sê die Kind wat gebore word, is heilig, Hy is die Seun van God. Maria, daar is 'n vrou, Elisabet, in jou familie, sy is oud en sy kon nooit kinders kry nie, maar sy sal ook 'n seun kry. Sy is nou ses maande swanger. God kan alles doen, daar is niks wat Hy nie kan doen nie.” Maria het gesê: “Ek sal doen wat die Here wil hê. Die Here kan met my doen wat jy gesê het.” Toe het die engel weggegaan van haar.

Every good story has a plot twist—an unexpected moment that changes everything. One of the biggest plot twists in the Bible is the Christmas story. Over the next five days, we’ll explore how this one event changed the world and how it can change your life today.
Our Christmas story starts with the angel’s annunciation to Mary and concludes with the visit of the Magi. In these reflections and applications of the Christmas narrative I will mostly refer to Luke, as his is the fullest of the gospel accounts.
Slow down and savor time with the Savior this season. Choose to pause and ponder as Mary did, to get lost in the wonder of Immanuel, of God with us. This year, let it be simply Christmas.
We’re filled with anticipation as we lean into this season of celebration with the intention of tuning into the heart of God.
