Who Is Jesus?

DAY 3 OF 5

Jesus Is The Light

Have you ever been afraid in the dark?

Do you still sleep with a night-light?

You can admit it. This is a safe space.

There is something about inky black darkness that can send chills down our spines and leave us feeling disorientated.

When you are afraid of the dark you learn to love the light.

Light illuminates our surroundings. Light shows us where to place our feet. Light allows us to admire those we love. Light is necessary for life, both biologically and spiritually.

In the Bible, light is often used as a symbol for intellectual understanding and moral purity. Walking in darkness refers to living in rebellion against God and His will for us, but to walk in the light is to discover who God is and learn to follow after Him. For this we need Jesus’ help.

In the teaching we just read, Jesus claims to be the light of the world!

Jesus is our light who illuminates the face of God and guides our path to full life.

And, not only is Jesus the light of the world; so are you! In Matthew 5:14 Jesus says to His followers, “You are the light of the world.”

If Jesus is the Son, His followers are meant to be like mirrors that reflect His light.

When we shine the love and truth of Jesus into our school, our home, and our friendships, we are pushing back the darkness in our world; we are bringing hope and love in Jesus’ name, trusting that people will trace our light to its source in Jesus, Himself!

Light should not be hidden or concealed.

Light belongs out in the open for all to see.

The purpose of light is to dispel the darkness.

So in what ways can you bring the light of God’s love into your school or home through kind words and good deeds?
