Jesus Culture - Faith For Your City

DAY 5 OF 21

Jesus Targeted Cities

Impact:

When Jesus went to preach and demonstrate the Kingdom throughout the cities of a region, He wanted everyone to be saved. When people pray for an entire city to be transformed, what are your first impressions? Maybe you think, “Yeah right, that’s expecting a little too much. We don’t want to set the bar too high.” But Jesus wanted to draw everyone to Himself as He demonstrated the incredible love of God through signs and wonders. When asked by John the Baptist’s disciples, Jesus described His ministry by quoting from Isaiah: “the blind can see, the lame can walk, those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead are brought back to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor.” (Matt. 11:5)

When Jesus did not see cities completely changed from this raw display of God’s love and power, Scripture tells us that Jesus was disappointed. “The people in the towns where Jesus had performed most of his miracles did not turn from their sins, so he reproached those towns.” (Matt. 11:20) Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum were the towns where Jesus had worked the hardest, but whose people had responded the least. If Jesus expected to see entire cities get transformed, then so should we. We have been given authority to pray for city- wide revival.

Prayer:

Jesus, expand my small thinking and help me to believe entire cities will be saved and set free. Completely transform my city and make it new.
