Victory in the Mind: Lessons From Jesus in the WildernessSample
Our Identity
This Bible Plan will take a closer look at Jesus' experience in the wilderness to draw out lessons on how to combat the enemy and his tactics. Although Satan is not in the flesh like Jesus, according to the Bible, he is the prince of the air. Therefore, his strategy is to infiltrate our minds, attempt to strip us of our faith, and turn us away from God. It's safe to say that what took place in the wilderness happened in Jesus' Mind as Satan tempted him.
Before going to the wilderness, Jesus went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. When Jesus approached John to be baptized in the water, John initially refused, feeling unworthy to baptize the Son of God. However, Jesus insisted, and John ultimately complied, recognizing that it was God's Plan.
Jesus asked John to baptize Him as he did with others who came for the baptism of repentance, and after some persuasion, John agreed and submerged Jesus in the Jordan River. As Jesus went out of the water, the Heavens opened up, the Spirit of God descended upon Him like a dove, and a Voice from Heaven declared, "This is my Son in whom I am well pleased."
Jesus' Identity is affirmed at this moment, which will aid Him in the wilderness. Having victory in our minds starts with knowing we are children of God and acknowledging His Spirit in our lives. Tomorrow, we will focus on the Spirit. Before moving on to the next day, let's do this breathing exercise together:
So, take a deep breath and repeat after me: "I am a child of God." Now exhale and say: "I am filled with God’s Spirit." Tomorrow, we will talk more about the Holy Spirit.
