What Jesus Said About Making DisciplesSample

What Jesus Said About Making Disciples

DAY 6 OF 9

The great neglect: Not making disciples and disciplemakers and not making disciples of the nations

Again Jesus said to them, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you" (Johannes 20:21).

Yet when I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast because I am obligated to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! (1 Corinthians 9:16).

And the clear responsibility to go across language and cultural boundaries to disciple the nations has been neglected. We are micro-managing "discipleship" by our diminished understanding of "make disciples." We have, unfortunately, domesticated the Great Commission! We must bring back the nations in our discipleship – not only "my church."

The biggest neglect and problem of the church is its failure to make disciples of new converts, to help every disciple to become a disciplemaker and to disciple all nations. Unless the church successfully addresses this issue, it will remain weak and ineffective and become increasingly irrelevant.

We cannot solve all the problems by making disciples and disciplemakers. But unless we make disciples and disciplemakers, we cannot solve the other things that plague the church. And we will also not be able to disciple all nations because if you do not have disciples and disciplemakers, you will not have enough workers to disciple all the nations.

Very few pastors and Christian leaders will not agree that discipleship is of utmost importance. While there is a realization of the importance of it, nearly no intentional discipling of new converts and church members is taking place. This does not even include making disciples that can make more disciples. And for absolutely the majority, the concept of discipling nations is not even on the "agenda".

Read and do: 2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance. What do you think God wants you to do about this verse?
