Wounded Women: Allowing God to Lead You on Your Healing Journey

DAY 1 OF 4

Day One: The Story of a Former Wounded Woman

Having delved into the profound themes of wounded women in John and Stasi Eldredge's book, "Captivating," I felt a strong calling to walk alongside women who are ready to invite God into their healing journey.

Today, as we embark on an exploration of God's grace and His loving embrace for women who bear the scars of their wounds, I wish to set the tone for our discussion by sharing my own "wounded story."

If we have not yet been acquainted, I am A. Margot Blair. By day, I am a Leadership Development Consultant and by night, I am Wife to Vincent, Bonus-Mama to E. and Lyv, and Mama to our potty-training toddler we call “Bean.”

The woman I am today is in the process of healing and transformation, shedding the burdens of my past adversities.

A recurring question that plagued my heart during those challenging times was, "Where was God?"

My identity was under attack from a very early age. When I was five days old, I was adopted. In a predominantly white family, as a black child, I struggled with feelings of not belonging. The loss of my adoptive father to bipolar disorder and depression just before my fifth birthday further compounded my sense of abandonment, fueled by cruel taunts from schoolyard bullies. At age eleven, I faced a traumatic assault, shattering my innocence and causing me to question my own worth. By the age of thirteen, I found myself in a juvenile detention center, facing the next five years in jail.

While my story does not entail a 5-year jail sentence (praise the Lord), these wounds sought to destroy my sense of identity. Although your story, your adversity, and your wounds may look different from mine, the common thread of "Where was God?" may have woven itself through your journey, too.

Let's Pray - Merciful Father, may your tangible presence be felt by every woman who reads this plan. Today, Lord, we lay our burdens at your feet, trusting that you are here with us, ready to guide us on our healing journey. We pray for the courage to share our stories, declare your truth, and find healing. Grant us the wisdom to declare your truth over our wounded hearts and walk the path of healing with faith and hope on this journey toward wholeness.

See you on Day Two.
