Thankful When You Don't Feel Like It

DAY 3 OF 5

The Bible says that we should glory, or give thanks, for this idea that tribulations come, because when they do, it will produce something good in our life. We should be thankful because even in sorrow we still have salvation.

Psalms are songs, and they are often the psalm-writer‘s real feelings, the depth of his heart. So, when we get into the Psalms, we get into the depth of human experience. In Psalm 69:29 (KJV), the writer says that he is poor and sorrowful. Sometimes, that is exactly how we feel. Even in that, the psalmist says, …Let thy salvation, oh God, set me up on high.

Salvation is a wonderful thing. If you have received eternal life, keep that in mind. Even in sorrow you still have salvation so you can praise the Lord. In Psalm 69:30 we read, I will praise the name of God with a song…

I love singing songs of thanksgiving and songs of gratitude to the Lord Who has been so good to me. Even in sorrow or poor health, whatever the situation happens to be, we can praise the Lord for His goodness.

Maybe you are caring for an elderly parent who does not even know your name anymore. Perhaps you have a chronic illness that leaves you in pain every day. You might have a child with special needs, and their care is sapping all your energy. Let me tell you this: thankfulness in hard circumstances will help us find patience, perseverance, and hope.

The rest of verse thirty says, …I will magnify Him with thanksgiving. These are Scriptural truths. Any time that we read this Scripture, we know that we are speaking truth. We need to remember to be thankful even in sorrow because we still have salvation. It might not be the easy thing to do, but it is the correct thing to do.
