How to Reach Your Co-Workers

DAY 5 OF 5

PREPARE YOUR TESTIMONY

As we close this 5-day reading plan, we hope you have been encouraged to be SALT and LIGHT boldly.

If there is a chance to tell your personal testimony, share clearly and simply, so they understand how they, too, can begin a relationship with Christ. You don't want to appear vague about how to become a Christian. Be sure to connect your testimony to your discussion so your story doesn't appear to be coming out of left field.

Develop Your Story

Try writing out your testimony first. This helps you determine what parts are important and what parts are mere rabbit trails that distract from the simple, clear message of salvation. A good testimony should take only 3 minutes to share. Here's what to include:

  1. One of the most vital parts of your story is to explain what your life was like before you came to know Jesus.
  2. Then, what was it that caused you to see your desperate need for a Savior? In other words, what was the straw that broke the camel's back? What was the overwhelming problem--the breaking point?
  3. Now, how did you come to know Jesus? Was it a friend? A sermon? A gospel booklet? Share that event. It's the climax of your story because salvation comes from no one else but Jesus, and they must know this (Acts 4:12 and John 14:6).
  4. No testimony is complete unless you explain the difference your relationship with Jesus has made in your life. How has He transformed you since coming to Christ? But don't stop there. Your testimony alone is not the gospel. It's only a tool to get you to the message of the cross.
  5. Finally, transition to the gospel by asking about their interest in it. Use your Bible or a Bible app to show them scriptures about salvation, like Ephesians 2:8-9. Offer them an opportunity to talk more about these things.

Which tool you choose is up to you. There are many online if you search for "How can I easily share the gospel?" or "Gospel resources." Whatever you choose, and whatever their response or reaction, rest in the peace that the Holy Spirit is with you, and it's ultimately not up to you if your co-worker receives Christ or not. It's not a reflection of how well you presented the message of salvation. You're only required to be obedient and share it (Matthew 28:18-20).

What Now?

Are you looking for more ways to be prepared to share how someone can know Christ? Look online for these resources:

  • A booklet or apps titled “The Four Spiritual Laws” and “Knowing God Personally."
  • An app called the JESUS film provides short videos you can share to help spark spiritual conversations.

Most of all, remember to share your faith in the power of the Holy Spirit and leave the results to God.
