Next Steps: Learning to Tell Your God Story

DAY 5 OF 5

Sharing your story and why it matters

The Bible is full of God stories. Abraham, Moses, and David are some notable men from the Old Testament whose stories we get told as children to teach and inspire us about God’s faithfulness. The New Testament is full of these stories too: the disciples being called to Christ, the Apostle Paul, and the Samaritan Woman are just a few examples of God’s redemption and the way He changes our lives.

We’ve looked at the Apostle Paul, but today let’s take a look at the Samaritan Woman. Her full God story is found in John 4:1-42, but today we are going to look at it in three parts:

  • What her life was like before she knew Jesus
  • When she chose to follow Jesus
  • How her life changed afterwards

Her life before Christ was her trying to fill that void inside her with men. She had had five husbands and was living with a man she wasn’t married to. Her come-to-Jesus moment was at the well, when Jesus himself asked her for a drink of water and then told her, “I AM the Messiah!” and she chose to believe and accept. After her encounter with Jesus at the well, her life changed and she found forgiveness, and I believe she found the source of satisfaction she so desperately was seeking for years. That’s her God story broken down in the way we’ve learned about it, but it doesn’t actually end there. Next, she did something that each of us today has the opportunity to do: she ran back to her home to tell everyone what Jesus had done for her! We know from the scripture that many people from her home chose to believe in Jesus that day, in large part because she was willing to tell her God story to them!

The Bible is full of examples of God’s faithfulness to His people, and when we read about them, we not only see the character of God, we get to be encouraged in hope that God is still doing that today in our lives and in the lives of people around us. When you tell your God story and share it with people around you, you are able to act in obedience to God as well as to present your life as a living sacrifice for the glory of God. I don’t know how God will use you and your story, but I truly believe that God can use your story to inspire, teach, defend, and ultimately reach the people around you! God is in the business of using His people to accomplish His purposes, and I want to invite you to be a part of that today by sharing your God story whenever you can.

Today’s challenge: Share your God story with someone you know this week and allow God to use your story to encourage, inspire, and draw people to Him!
