Quiet Time - Embracing Moments of Quiet Reflection With God

DAY 2 OF 5

Quiet Time with God - Creating a Sacred Space and Nurturing a Ritual

Finding time to meet with God can be a challenge amidst our busy lives. However, by prioritizing and preparing for quiet time, we can create a dedicated space to connect with our Creator. We will explore practical strategies for making time, overcoming obstacles, and experiencing the transformative power of spending intentional moments with God.

Finding the Right Time: While mornings are often preferred for quiet time, find a time that works best for you. Consider waking up a little earlier, utilizing your lunch break, or setting aside time in the evenings. Choose a slot that allows for uninterrupted focus and reflection. Reflect on the passages from Psalm 63:1 and Isaiah 40:31, and let the longing for God and the promise of renewed strength fuel your commitment to making time for Him.

Planning Ahead: To avoid unnecessary hurdles, plan your quiet time the night before. This can include deciding on a specific Bible reading plan or devotional material to guide your study. Having a plan in place eliminates decision fatigue and ensures that you are ready to engage in meaningful communion with God. Consider interactive questions, journal prompts, or relevant passages to ponder during your quiet time.

Disciplined Rest: Prioritize getting adequate rest by going to bed on time. Late nights and excessive caffeine can disrupt sleep patterns, making it harder to wake up refreshed for quiet time. Cultivate the discipline of maintaining a regular sleep schedule, allowing your body and mind to rejuvenate. God honors our commitment to honoring our physical well-being, as emphasized in Isaiah 40:31.

Awaken Your Senses: Before diving into prayer and reading, awaken your senses to be fully present. Wash your face and perhaps enjoy a hot drink, such as tea or coffee. This simple act can help stimulate alertness and attentiveness, ensuring that you approach your quiet time with a focused and awakened mind. Let this physical awakening be a reminder of the spiritual awakening you seek through connecting with God.

Varying Positions: If you find yourself becoming drowsy or distracted while on your knees, feel free to change your position. Abraham stood, Jesus often sought solitude in a mountainside, and you can even walk and pray out loud if it helps you maintain concentration. Find a physical posture that aids your engagement and receptivity during this sacred time.

The Art of Listening: In the hustle and bustle of life, we often forget the importance of listening. Psalm 46:10 reminds us to "be still and know that I am God." Embrace the silence and listen for His gentle whisper. Just as Job's friends sat with him in silence for seven days, we too must relearn the art of attentive listening. Allow God's voice to speak into your heart and soul.

By intentionally preparing for quiet time, we remove obstacles and create a conducive environment for encountering God's presence. Cultivate the discipline of finding the right time, planning ahead, prioritizing rest, awakening.

Reflective Questions:

1. How can prioritizing quiet time with God bring renewal and strength to our weary souls?

2. In what ways can planning ahead for our quiet time help us overcome obstacles and distractions?

3. What practices can we adopt to cultivate an attentive and receptive posture during our moments with God?
