4 Things Christians Should Do With Money (That Don't Make Sense)

DAY 4 OF 4

Day 4—Resting, Especially in the Midst of Chaos

Kevin O’Leary, best known for his role in the TV show Shark Tank, says “Working 24 hours a day isn't enough anymore. You have to be willing to sacrifice everything to be successful, including your personal life, your family life, maybe more.”

His over-emphasis on work while neglecting rest is common in the 21st-century world.

But God has a much different view on rest.

Christianity holds the practice of rest, including observing Sabbath rest, in high regard.

This isn't just about following a religious commandment but about demonstrating faith and reliance on God. By setting aside a day of rest amidst the chaos and busyness of life, we express our trust in God's ability to provide and sustain us.

After all, Jesus said in Mark 2:27 that “The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.”

So we should view it as a gift from God, and this act of resting, of stepping back from our work to rest in God's providence, is a profound way of affirming our faith.

It's like saying, "Lord, I trust you to take care of this while I rest in you." It's acknowledging that our efforts alone are insufficient and that we are ultimately reliant on God's provision and grace.

What’s so beautiful is that rest (or Sabbath) is God’s gift that is available to us. But it has to be received by faith.

And oftentimes, it is a significant act of faith to step away from the to-do list and expectations of others and simply do nothing other than rest.

So, let me encourage you. In the midst of the chaos that life can often be, today, choose to rest in God.

Whether that's setting aside a day for Sabbath rest or taking regular moments throughout your day to quiet your mind and connect with God, make rest a priority. Trust in God's ability to sustain you, and let this faith guide your actions and decisions.
