Get Ready for a Miracle - Discover Hope and Faith When Facing the Impossible

DAY 4 OF 5

Create Space for the Miracle

A sense of anticipation has a powerful effect on our faith. It's one thing to pray for a miracle, and it's another to create a space for it, demonstrating our faith in God's promise. This was one of the key lessons we learned in our journey towards parenthood.

Once we got married, our apartment brimmed with life. Yet, there was one room, one space that we believed was destined for our future child. Initially, I had adopted this room as my home office. However, during those seemingly hopeless times, I made a choice that might have seemed unusual to some—I began transitioning my workspace into the living room, eventually returning to an office outside the home. It didn't make much sense to others, but to us, it was an act of faith.

We felt a connection to the story of the widow and Elisha in 2 Kings 4. The widow found herself in a dire situation, facing mounting debts and the alarming possibility of her sons being taken away. Nonetheless, Elisha urged her to gather as many empty jars as she could, effectively encouraging her to prepare for a miracle by suggesting she ask her neighbors for empty jars.

An intriguing detail in this narrative remains a mystery - the text doesn't clarify whether the widow borrowed any jars from her neighbors. Following Elisha's instructions, it merely mentions that she went home, shut the door behind her and her sons, and started pouring oil. The oil didn't stop flowing until all her jars were full. We're left to ponder: If she didn't borrow jars, did she inadvertently limit the extent of her miracle? The oil filled exactly as many jars as she had prepared - no more, no less.

This story of the widow imparted a valuable lesson to us. Sometimes, our faith - or lack thereof - can influence the magnitude of the miracles we experience. The widow ended up with as much oil as she had jars to fill. If she had gathered more jars, perhaps the oil might have continued to flow.

We realized that creating space for God's miracle wasn't about physical space alone; it was also about making room in our hearts, our minds, and our expectations. It was about fully preparing for God's blessings and being ready to receive them.

This act of preparing a room for our future child was a declaration of our faith in God's promise. It might have seemed silly to others, but to us, it was about making room for the miracle we believed God would perform. And we believed He would fill the space we had prepared.

Remember, God can work miracles in our lives, but He also wants us to be ready to receive them.
