TheLionWithin.Us: How to Pursue Your Career

DAY 3 OF 8

Defining Goals

Men love to set goals.

It gives us something to work towards, and let’s face it, there is nothing like the feeling of crushing a goal you set for yourself. It’s encouraging to know that God wants us to succeed just as much as we do.

In Psalm 20:4, we see that God wants to grant us what we desire, and He loves to see us fulfill those plans. The key to setting goals is to make sure they are in alignment for God’s Will, and not centered around our fleshly desires. We get into trouble when we try to accomplish things for our personal advancement or achievement.

In our careers, setting goals is a valuable practice and having a few Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAG’s) is not a bad thing. Before you set a goal, take it to the Lord and pray for wisdom and discernment. You will eventually know if the goal is from God if you seek His guidance.

Some points to consider as you seek His wisdom are:

  1. God never reveals something contrary to His Word
  2. Ensure your surroundings are not prohibiting you to hear God
  3. Advice from other mature Christians can be how He speaks to us
  4. You will receive peace from the Holy Spirit about decisions if they truly align with His Will.

If you’ve followed the above advice, and haven’t felt confirmation in a direction, go back to the drawing board, and keep seeking. Do not give up, for He is on your side completely. However, always have an open mind and be receptive to adjusting your goals to achieve Holy alignment.

Question to Consider

  1. How could you align your career goals to find balance and allow God to use you more in your workplace?
  2. Are you more afraid of missing a target or not aiming at anything at all?
  3. What actions will you commit to today to be the leader God intends you to be?
