We all know the blemishes—and that is probably a kind word for it!—in Church history. Crusades, witch hunts, and inquisitions—to name a few. In modern times we have pastor scandals that range from extra marital affairs to stealing tithe money.

So is there nothing good in the history of the Church that we can be proud of? Is it case-closed?

As I was writing the OUTCRY book, I was amazed by the beautiful fingerprint the Church has left on history. In 3rd-century Rome a horrible plaque broke out killing as much as 2/3 of city populations. A horrible painful plague that effected the entire empire. But the Christians at the time were know for putting themselves in danger to help the sick and bury the dead. Many Christians died caring for people they hardly knew. 

The Church is the foundation of modern healthcare and higher education. We created some of the most ground-breaking art. Monks even invented a kind of beer to nourish them during their Lent fasts!

The Church is that force humming in the background of history. Overlooked by many, but affecting everyone. This is our movement. And it is a movement to be proud of!

Prayer: God thank you for building a revolution that has impacted world culture more than any other movement! Remind me that I stand on the shoulders of giants throughout the history of the Church. Remind me how big your Church is, and in turn how big you are. Amen.
