Tim Keller on Money, Wealth, & GenerositySample

Tim Keller on Money, Wealth, & Generosity

DAY 1 OF 3

As the world mourns the loss of Tim Keller, I want to share some of the ways he impacted my thinking about money, wealth, and generosity.

Today, I want to start with a simple but critically important quote from Tim regarding money and generosity:

“A lack of generosity refuses to acknowledge that your assets are not really yours, but God's.”

The truth is, we are not the true owners of the things we possess; God is.

Consider this: God, who created everything, has given us gifts like time, skills, and possessions. But these gifts are not for us to hoard; rather, they are tools that God has entrusted to us to take care of, to help others, and to advance the Kingdom.

Being generous means acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. We are like caretakers or managers of His possessions, with the responsibility of using these resources to help others and honor God.

So, as you go about your day, reflect on these verses and the fact that everything we have ultimately belongs to God. When we fully grasp this truth, it becomes easier to let go of things. And when we give, we are not losing out; rather, we are joining in on God's way of providing and showing grace. Giving helps us better understand God's heart - a heart that never stops giving or loving.
