Financial Discipleship - the Bible on Surrender

DAY 1 OF 5

One of the last things Jesus did with His disciples was instruct them how to be true followers after He’d give up His life for us on the cross.

First, He prophesied that He would suffer greatly, face public rejection and die at the very hands of those He came to save. And He explained that they would have to be willing to do much of the same…

Giving Himself up to be ridiculed, mocked, beaten and crucified wasn’t what Jesus wanted to do. But, even though he had the power to choose not to, He did it because it’s what God wanted (Philippians 2:8).

That’s what Jesus was explaining to His disciples: surrender.

Surrender is more about strength and discipline than it is about weakness or passiveness. Remember, our lives are not our own. Jesus knew that. He knew that He came to Earth to give us eternal life—a life God desired to give us another chance at receiving. But it would have never happened without Jesus’ surrender to God’s will for His life.

One of the greatest gifts God could ever give us is the gift of free will. With it, we have the choice to do what we want with our lives. But time and time again, we see through remarkable stories in the Bible that His way yields the best reward (Colossians 3:23-24).

God is gracious to give us multiple chances at walking in the path that He laid before us (Isaiah 45:2). All while never cutting Himself or His love from us when we turn our back on Him.

He knows we’re not perfect. We never have been, and never will be. But the best thing we could do for our destiny—and the destiny of others around us—is to surrender our lives to His will … and never look back.
