HERO | A Children's Book Connecting Jesus' Ministry To Elisha

DAY 13 OF 13

The words“It is Finished,”seem to cut right through me. Underneath our feet the ground shakes, the clouds roll in overhead, and I know something is different. It is as if when he says “It is finished” the whole creation hears him. The man that turned water into wine, healed blind men, and raised dead men to life, calls out from the cross, and it is as if his voice makes the world shake and change somehow. I look up at Jesus, as he hangs his head to take his final breath which feels like my first. My tears stop, and I take in a deep gasp and somehow know that Jesus’ words are for all of creation and even for me.

I am forgiven, and everything is alive. He somehow finishes something bigger than all of us can understand. Somehow I know that he is the true Hero, our King.

I turn to Saba who is crying harder than I am. I pull on his sleeve until he bends down so that I can press my mouth to his ear. I struggle to speak, but I hope in my heart that this is not the end of Jesus.

“Saba,” I whisper, “I don’t want to be like Elisha anymore ... I want to be just like Jesus.”

Over Jesus’ head hangs a sign, “King of the Jews.” It is true. This is the one, the one better than Elisha that we all have been waiting for to come—the King for which we have been waiting. I do not quite understand what is happening and how it all will end, but I know one thing for sure, death cannot beat him. Surely this man can do anything that he wants to do. If he can raise Lazarus from the dead and do all those miracles, I’m sure he can bring himself back to life ...

… don’t you think?
