DAY 2 OF 4

Storge

Storge refers to the kind of unconditional love shared between family members. It’s very similar to Phileo love but more one-sided. Think of the way a parent loves their child: their child may break the rules or hurt their feelings, but the parent’s love never fades.

There’s a story in Luke 15:11-32 about a son who asks his dad for money only to run away and waste it all on foolish things. When his money runs out, and he hits rock bottom, the son decides to come home. Expecting his dad to be angry with him, the son plans to offer to come back as a slave, not as a son, to repay his dad for the ways he hurt him. Instead, his dad welcomes him with open arms and throws a huge party!

Storge love also describes the love God has for us. Romans 5:8 says that “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God knew all about mankind's mistakes and shortcomings, and he knew there would be more of them in the future. But that didn’t make him love people any less, and he still followed through with his plan to offer us forgiveness and eternity in heaven through Jesus. Know that God loves you a great deal, no matter how much you’ve messed up.
