Three Important Things

You’re an extraordinary person. You aren’t meant for a mundane life. You were made for a very specific purpose because you’re a child of God.

I think one of the worst tricks of satan is to keep us from experiencing the power of God and to just stay comfortable and go through life. I can just hear him saying, Sure you can believe, but don’t do anything with it. Keep it in your quiet time and prayers. Life will be good. Go to church, make good choices, get a job, have a family, be a good person, enjoy life.

Satan wants us to think this way because we’re not a threat to him when we’re living comfortable lives. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds me of the power that lives in me that is capable of doing anything. Whatever I think I can’t do, Christ in me can. When I’m scared, he’s not. Through the power of the Holy Spirit living in me, he can truly do immeasurably more than anything I could ever imagine (see Ephesians 3:20). And that is true for every single child of God.

You have not been given a spirit of fear. Fear keeps you living a comfortable life. As a child of God, you have been given a spirit of power, of love, and a sound mind.

But right in the middle of these everyday things, we must recognize the power that lives in us. We must realize what we are capable of through the power of the Holy Spirit. We have power to do whatever God calls us to do, no matter how impossible it seems. We have been given a spirit of love. That means that we can love those people that no one else will love. We can forgive those who seem impossible to forgive. We have been given a sound mind with which to make wise decisions and resist temptations.

Satan will attack all of these things because they make you a force for the kingdom of God and they threaten him. Submit yourself wholly to God and tell him you want to live in the power, love, and mind-set he has called you to. Don’t let the enemy keep you from living in the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in you.
