Vision: Seeing Life God's Way

DAY 2 OF 5

Why Do We Need Vision?

God's word is very clear about the value of vision. Proverbs 29:18 (TPT) says, Where there is no clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray. But when you follow the revelation of the Word, heaven's bliss fills your soul.

In other words, we get off track pretty quickly when we don't follow God's plan.

If we want to experience the fullness of the life God has designed specifically for us, we will need to do a few things: focus on him, ask for wisdom, and write the vision down. Just by doing these three things, we increase our chance of staying on track.

The world (and our very real enemy) would try to convince us that world systems work for us. What the world deems success is often about the shinier things in life: the big house, fancy car, fat bank account, high-profile job, and number of followers we influence.

But heaven's system is different.

Jesus says that the meek inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). In Matthew 5, he also talks about other situations that are not considered "success" in the world: being poor in spirit, mourning, showing mercy, being pure and peaceful, suffering persecution. In heaven's system, those things get you to the front of the line.

Stay Focused on the Right Things

Since the Lord is the one who created us and knows the best way for us to navigate this life, it just makes sense that we would ask him for the wisdom we need. He promises to give us all the wisdom we want (James 1:5). He also says that if we remain focused on him and his righteousness, he will ensure we have everything we need. (Matthew 6:33)

If you really want to walk out the vision God has for you, you may have to rearrange (or even eliminate) some of your priorities. No longer will the world's system serve you well. It may be hindering you if you continue chasing the things the world says equal success.

This is the hard part. It consists of asking God for wisdom and then actually doing what he says to do. This is usually not very comfortable, and it always costs us something.

Questions: What am I chasing? Does it line up with the values in Matthew 5? What do I need to put farther down my list or perhaps eliminate entirely?

Prayer: Father God, I want to seek you first and foremost--help me to get rid of anything standing in the way of that. Show me how to order my priorities according to your system and not get distracted by the things of the world. Please give me the wisdom to make good choices and follow where you lead me, even if it is uncomfortable. In Jesus' name, amen.
