God’s Christmas Gift to the World.

DAY 5 OF 6

The most important and costly gift ever given, Jesus

by Rev. Joel Gaertner

Are you a person who picks out a gift just to complete the task, or are you someone who puts thought and effort into choosing a gift? Do you set a limit on what you will spend, or is the sky the limit?

Although we will likely exchange gifts during this Christmas season, the single verse above reminds us of the most important and costliest Christmas gift ever given. Paul reminds us of what the real gift is at Christmas, which we don’t want to miss out on – God giving us his only Son as our Savior.

In giving us his only Son, God gave us not only the most expensive gift ever given (“did not spare his own Son”). He also gave the most thoughtful gift ever given (“did not spare his own Son”).

The gift of Jesus as our Savior is exactly the gift every single person in the world needs, even if people don’t realize it or want it.

If that isn’t enough, Paul goes on to remind us that God continues to give freely and generously all year long; yes – all throughout our lives, “how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” How easily we become complacent in recognizing that everything we are and have in life is a gift from God! We get sucked into the thinking that we have “worked for” or “earned” the “things” we have in life.

Prayer: Gracious God, as we celebrate Christmas, help us to remember that it is all about you giving the incredible gift of your Son as our Savior. Thank you for the gift that takes away our sin and that assures us of our home in heaven. Open our hearts and eyes to see how you not only give us the best gift at Christmas, but you continue to shower your rich blessings on us all year long! I humbly ask this in the name of your Christmas gift to me, your Son, my Savior, Jesus. Amen.
