Living With Purpose on Purpose

DAY 5 OF 8

For some people perhaps, life’s purpose is a born talent. There are a few prodigies out there, but I haven’t met many. Often, it’s not until later in life that we discover and pursue our purpose.

We approach Jeremiah 29:11 as a security blanket: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. But that’s not all God was promising to the Israelites (in context) of this scripture, and it’s not what he’s promising us either. The meaning of the verse is not that we would escape the bad stuff, but rather learn how to thrive during it.

Genesis 37–50 gives us an account of the life of Joseph. He suffered at the jealous hands of his brothers, and was sold to Ishmaelite slave traders, then purchased by Potiphar, an Egyptian officer (Genesis 39:1).The very next verse the Bible says, “The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.” Genesis 39:2 Potiphar took note and witnessed Joseph’s success. Reading the rest of the story tells us Joseph had a lot of “ups” and “downs” in his purpose taking him from the prison to the palace. But don’t overlook the truth that the Lord was with Joseph through every high and low point.

Therefore, we won’t go from point “a” to point “b” on life's map without some hitches, hang-ups, or hiccups, but we can know and trust in God who holds the overall scope of our lives in His hands. That’s why we can’t rely on our limited understanding but must trust God to take us to where we need to be. Acknowledge and trust the Holy Spirit to guide you.

The future, as we know, can be very unclear or confusing. Don’t let doubt spiral you into a place of unbelief. Take all your questions to God because He holds the future with hope! Believe that there is a bigger picture for your life. Set your sights on Him! The future God has for you is bright, promising, and empowered by all of Heaven.
