Who Controls You?

DAY 4 OF 5

WHO'S YOUR MASTER? TALKING TO GOD Thank God for being the Lord of your life. Ask Him to show you any areas where you have not yet made Him Lord. Trust Him for help to exercise self-control in these areas. DIVING IN Play a game of charades, and try to guess the title of popular movies or cartoon series. GOING DEEPER It’s fun to do things you enjoy, like watch your favorite television show or play your favorite games. But it might not be so fun if those things had control over you. In 1 Corinthians 6:12, the apostle Paul says: “ ‘Everything is permissible for me’ — but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible for me’ — but I will not be mastered by anything.” When something that you enjoy doing becomes something that you are driven to do, it may have control over you. This means that you’ve given up your ability to choose what is best. It’s important to only have one Master — God — and to make sure He comes first in everything you do. TALKING TO EACH OTHER - What do you enjoy doing in your free time? - Name a few characteristics of a "master." How can you tell if something in your life is becoming a master over you? - Discuss some ways that you can develop more self-control.
