The Book of Romans: A 16 Day Devotional

DAY 14 OF 16

Several verses in Romans 14 stand out to me: Romans 14:1, “Accept the one whose faith is weak”, verse 3, “for God has accepted them” and verse 4, “Who are we to judge?”

We often find it easy to place standards to which we hold others. How much would each of us fall short? And how wonderful and merciful is our God that He does not hold us to any standard, other than to accept Him into our hearts? If we are to truly do this, then surely, we are compelled to live as Christ has shown us - with love, acceptance, without judgement, and to do all things for the glory of God and His Kingdom.

This chapter also reminds us that not only should we live without judgement of others, but that we should do what we can to encourage and strengthen our community in their relationship with God. This allows us not only to be free to worship and live in relationship with God how we personally believe, but to do it without fear of judgement from our peers, an iron sharpening iron culture.

Reflection

Think about how many times you judge others, today and every day. We will all stand before God’s judgement seat. Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and mutual edification.
