I believe you aren’t an accident; you were created. Regardless of the circumstances under which you were conceived, you were intentionally made, knit together in your mother’s womb, and handcrafted by God. If you agree that’s true, it will require an important reorientation in your search for meaning. Because, if God created you, then he is the one who determines what the good life looks like for you. The Creator sets the vision for the creation. Eventually you’ll have to submit to God’s version of what thriving looks like for you. We all do. Many of us would like to believe Jesus is less like the author of our lives and more like the ultimate life coach, running alongside us and giving a periodic ego boost as we try to live life as we want.

I know God’s purpose for you is good. In fact, I think it’s best. He knows you better than you know yourself because he made you, and his heart is to love you and show you kindness. Isaiah 30:18 tells us that God “longs to be gracious to you” and “show you compassion.” Because God is good, I trust, and I hope you will trust too, that when you submit your plans to what God has in mind for you, you’ll find the most fulfilling pathway to your purpose in life. Flourishing is fulfilling your original design.

Lord, thank you for creating me to do your work. Please help me know my purpose and how to fulfill it. Amen.
