Biblical Entrepreneurship - a Source of Well-BeingSample

Biblical Entrepreneurship - a Source of Well-Being

DAY 7 OF 8

Meditation

In Isaiah 65:17-25 we read about God’s dream for this world. It is a fantastic vision of a new world full of righteousness, justice, joy and happiness. A world in which people no longer mourn or cry. Where there is no more evil. Everything will be put to rights, as it is meant to be. In the Bible we call this righteousness, or justice. All and everyone will be treated justly. People will be restored to their rightful conditions. Creation will be restored as it was meant to be, without evil. Our work and entrepreneurship will be realized as we planned and meant it to be from the start. There will be no more pointlessness, no frustration, no more arguments. People will work and enjoy the fruit of their own work. Everyone and everything will be restored to their proper state. God has promised us that this dream will come true.

This vision is an inspiration to me. As an entrepreneur and as a human being, I long for this world. I want to live and work for it. It is this vision of God’s righteousness that motivates me to act and this is what God’s love calls me to do. With my organization I can contribute to this dream and to this new world by my way of doing business.

This leads us to the question of the contribution this organization makes. Why does it exist and what is its purpose? This also leads to the question of a ‘’code of conduct’’ for the organization. What rules and regulations does the organization have and what is the company culture? If we look at the purpose of an organization, the reason it exists, every entrepreneur will fill this in differently. For me as a Christian, the following aspects are important:

a. We do business, not for ourselves, but for God and to his honor.

b. We are called to serve people and creation, driven by our love for God, man, and creation.

c. We want to be a blessing for everyone involved with the organization and have a positive influence on our environment and the society at large.

This personal mission need not always be made public, but it should inspire the identity of our company and have an impact on the activities and the philosophy within our company. Is it our intention and desire to work on God’s plan for a world of justice, even within our limited possibilities? If we have a sincere desire to do so, God will help us and clothe us with possibilities and righteous acts (Rev. 19:8).

Question for the day

What does your company contribute to God’s dream of a righteous world?
