Walking With Jesus (Wisdom)Sample

Walking With Jesus (Wisdom)

DAY 1 OF 7

Wisdom

In the Bible, the Hebrew word for wisdom covers all aspects of life. Wisdom comes from the word “hokmah” (noun), a derivative of the verb “hakam” which means "to be wise" or to act "wisely." God gave King Solomon extraordinary wisdom (1 Kings 4:29-30), and Solomon is the author of much of the wisdom in the Old Testament. The collection of wisdom in the Old Testament, which is inspired by God, includes the book of Job, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. Biblical wisdom is both ethical and spiritual because it is a reflection of God's holy wisdom.

Man cannot acquire this ethical and spiritual wisdom by himself. They must first acknowledge God in all their ways before having God straightening their paths (Prov. 3:5-6). Biblical wisdom is practical and not theoretical. The book of Proverbs is full of guidance on how to be wise. Read this book one chapter daily every month from year to year. You will become a wiser and better person.

Wisdom also functions as a skill or expertise and intelligence. Daniel and his friends were "gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand" (Dan. 1:4). The context of this verse points more towards intellectual abilities. However, this was originally from the Lord and could only be developed with the help of God. What we usually call talent or ability also comes from the word “hokmah." God equipped Bezalel and Aholiab with expertise (hokmah) (Ex. 35:35). Wisdom, understanding and knowledge also use the word “hokmah” (Ex. 31:3). The spirit of skill also uses this word (Ex. 28:3). The same thing applies to the skill in war (Isa. 10:13), wit or wisdom (2 Sam. 20:22).

Hebrew, Greek, Latin, French, German, English and several other languages indicate the gender of the noun. The existing gender is masculine, feminine and neutral. Hebrew words do not have neutral gender. “Hokmah", like the Hebrew words for love, righteousness, justice and evil, is a feminine noun. Therefore, wisdom in Proverbs always uses feminine pronouns (she or her in English). The wisdom in Proverbs is often a picture of Lord Jesus Christ, who is God's wisdom (1 Cor. 1:30; Col. 2:3,8).

Brothers and sisters, we certainly want to be wise. Believe in Lord Jesus. A tangible manifestation of the fear of the Lord is the beginning of life as a wise person. People who have Lord Jesus (the wisdom of God) in their lives will walk according to God's word that is stated in the Bible.

Reflection:

1. Do you have ethical and spiritual wisdom?

2. How do you develop that ethical and spiritual wisdom?

Application:

Be a wise person.

About this Plan

Walking With Jesus (Wisdom)

Having wisdom is everyone's goal. Wisdom is not just talking about intelligence or having above-average knowledge. Wisdom is "God's mindset" that can be understood by us. It can also help us consider and decide our steps...
