DAY 12 OF 40

Communion

I celebrate Jesus and His finished work with other believers

Shortly before his death, Jesus instituted the communion or Lord’s Supper. Using the simple elements of bread and wine, Jesus gave us a physical reminder of what He would do on the cross for us. He was crucified and died in our place. His body was broken, and His blood was shed, to rescue and save us and restore our relationship with God.

Mark 14:22-24 NLT As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it, for this is my body.” And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And he said to them, “This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many.

When we celebrate communion together as believers, we are celebrating what Jesus did for us on the cross, reminding each other of His sacrifice, and what He accomplished for us by His death.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NLT For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it into pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

Communion and baptism are the only sacraments, habits, implemented by Jesus. Communion makes a spiritual truth a tangible reality for us, an action to confirm a belief.

Prayer:

Thank You, Jesus, for Your sacrifice. Thank You for giving Your life, so that I might live.

About this Plan

Follow: Life-Giving Habits

In the person of Jesus, God calls all people not to simply know about Him, but to follow Him with all that we are. Following Jesus daily is more like a habit than it is a moment. Habits are things we do often and regular...
