Encashing Opportunities

DAY 6 OF 7

Opportunity to Persevere

Sometimes you have done your best, yet you do not see any results. And when people tell us to ‘persevere, continue to do your part and the expected result will automatically come to you,’ we may become irritated. However, this is what the Scripture tells us, too. In Luke 11:5-10, we read about a man who refuses to help his friend at the beginning. But since his friend knocks on the door and asks again, even though it was midnight, the man gets up and gives him everything he has. The same principle can be applied in the corporate world. Your work can be overlooked once, twice or even three times, but if you persevere, your work will begin to bear fruit.

I like working with computers. When I got a job in human resources, I had a desire to move to digitization, which also pleased the management. All personnel files were in paper form till then. So I started to digitize them but learned that this project had already been started, and was in an advanced stage, and then was abandoned by my former colleague. I took over the work and then added two little things to successfully complete the project since the biggest chunk of the job was done by my former colleague. Sometimes, only very small things are missing to make our project a reality and make it functional.

If my former colleague had persevered a little more, she would have done the job much better than me. To complete a project, you have to ask God for help. For the Lord said in John 6:37, "whoever comes to Me I will never drive away."

We must bring a different solution to an existing problem when compared to others. If we think like others, we cannot be noticed. As Rosabeth Moss Kanter said, ‘To stay ahead, you must have your next idea waiting in the wings.’

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door. Ask God (wisdom), it will be given to you, seek (solution), you will find it, knock (persevere), and the door will be opened to you.

Father, I ask You for Your wisdom and help me to persevere in the tasks given to me. Amen
