Am I Trusting God?Sample

Am I Trusting God?

DAY 2 OF 5

Exodus 4:2-5: Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. [3] The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. [4] Then the LORD said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. [5] “This,” said the LORD, “is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

The Lord so patiently deals with the trust issues of Moses. Will Moses trust God to use him to deliver his people? He asks Moses a question: ‘What is in your hand?’ Moses could have replied, nothing. He would have gotten so accustomed to his staff over 40 years that it would seem as nothing special at all. It might as well have become a part of him as he would have been familiar with every knot and knurl on the stick. But Moses identified what was in his hand. A staff!

God uses us and the things he has placed in our hands. Often we look at the apparent prosperity of others, see the paucity of our own possessions and despise the little in our hands. We want  God to do amazing things on his own and without us but he wants to work with us and with what he has placed in our hands. God was about to use Moses in a mighty way to deliver his people out of Egypt and he wanted Moses to recognize what he had. He wanted Moses to see that he could be used powerfully with whatever he already had.

What do you have in your hand today? Is it paltry and insignificant? God was able to use a young lad’s lunch to feed 5,000. He was able to use a young boy’s sling to slay a giant. He used Moses' rod to become a sign to the Egyptians and the rod of authority to part the Red Sea and win battles for his people. You have what it takes for God to use you today. He wants to confront your trust issues and ask you to recognize what you have. He wants you to cast it down when he asks you. He wants to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. He wants to use you! He wants to use me!
