Qualities Of An "Unconventional" Business Leader

DAY 6 OF 7

Qualities Of An "Unconventional" Business Leader | 6. No Bondage

“N” represents no bondage in this seven-part series on the LEADING qualities of an unconventional business leader.

Countless businesses are hindered from being all that God desires for them due to bondage. Bondage can come in many forms. For some it is addictions, vices or workaholism. For many in business, it is bondage brought on by debt. This enslavement to lenders hinders their ability to serve God and be generous to others.

John’s first day out of college was memorable. It was on that day that he joined the family business. His excitement and anticipation were at an all-time high, but soon his spirits would be demoralized. His father announced, "I am turning the business over to you, but the company is in trouble, son, to the point that we are being forced into bankruptcy."

Faced with millions of dollars of debt, John learned a lesson he has never forgotten –– the enslavement of debt. While the courts didn't require this of him, he was convicted to pay back the debt. It took him 13 years to do so.

The bondage he felt and the inability to be generous during this time led John on a journey to get debt free and to stay debt free. Today, and for many years now, John’s business is free of this bondage, allowing him to generously support many ministries.

Galatians 5:1 teaches, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

If you desire to be an unconventional business leader, remember that God wants you to be free from bondage of any sort. Christ set us free to walk and do business in freedom.
