[Certainty In The Uncertainty] Staying Still In Times Of Crisis Sample

[Certainty In The Uncertainty] Staying Still In Times Of Crisis

DAY 3 OF 5

The Sovereignty Of God

God is our Refuge, our Strength, and our ever—present Help. He is also a Sovereign God. Sovereignty is an attribute of God based upon the premise that God, as the Creator of heaven and earth, has the absolute right and full authority to do or allow whatever He desires. He has supreme power and authority over everything. This is an attribute of God that we begin to see and understand when we get to know Him—and we only get to know God by staying still and being in His presence.

It says in Psalm 46:4–9, “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.”

As we see in the Scriptures, God can do great things. There are also great results that happen through trusting in the Lord. God is sovereign, He is almighty, He is lifted up, enthroned in the heavens. God is able to do His work. Even when the nations are roaring; kingdoms, governments, and economies fall; and health fails, we know that He will take care of everything. If the earth is giving way, He is going to take care of this. No matter what happens all around us, He will help us.

However, how can we trust someone we do not know? There is a stillness needed in all of our lives in order to know and understand the fullness of God, who He is, and what He can do. We need to know Him to trust Him. Psalm 9:10 says, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

Trust God. Take time to know Him in all of His power and splendor. May we all say: “Sovereign God, in all of these things that are going on in our world these days, we’re going to trust in You.”
