Life-giving breath of God

Have you ever thought about all the things your breath can do? A focused puff of breath can blow out a candle, and deep breaths can inflate a balloon.

Breath from our lungs can be used to whistle, sing, or create music with wind instruments. Breath can carry words of kindness in a whisper or call out for help.

People trained in first aid learn that breath can be used to resuscitate and save another person’s life.

The breath of God is even more wonderful than our own breath. God breathed into humans and gave them life and the capacity to continue to breathe.

God used His breath to whisper to Elijah when Elijah didn’t think he had any friends left, to let him know there were still other people who believed in God.

God uses His breath to sing words of love over us as He delights in celebrating life with us. 

God also breathes life into the words of the Bible, so they will inspire and encourage our hearts as we read them. 

We don’t always understand everything that’s happening, or even understand everything in the Bible, but God wants us to know He is closer than our own breath and He loves us always.

Thanks God for giving me breath

Thanks for all the fun things my breath can do

God, speak to me today as I read the Bible

And help me use my breath to speak life-giving words to others
