Have you ever had to kill something dangerous that could harm you or those around you? Like a poisonous insect that would cause you to need urgent medical attention? It goes without saying that it’s better for that thing to die than for you or those around you to be hurt or fatally injured.
Being aware of something dangerous in the room and pretending its not there is just absurd. In Colossians 3:5 Paul is telling us to cut off the oxygen supply to the things that are harming us and those around us. The reason Jesus came was to destroy the work of the devil; that work is the practice of sinning.
What in your life is causing sin, doubt or separating you from God? Jesus wants to eliminate that; not neutralise it or minimise it but destroy it; put an end to it completely. Often the key to eliminating sin is surrender and seeking Jesus.
