Where Is Your Delight?

To delight in something is to find great pleasure, happiness, and joy. There are many verses in the Bible stating that we find joy when we go through trials and hard times. I often wonder why that is. It sounds somewhat contradictory to find joy while going through a hard time or circumstance. But in the Kingdom of God we are going to find many contradictory things that meet each other in a common ground. This is because we have a God that promises us that His eternal love for us will always give us comfort. A God who says that if we focus on Him, He will take care of everything for us. 

There is a hope that comes with trusting God when we are going through a hard time in our lives. A Hope that comes from knowing that the love of God gives us comfort. A hope that is the result of delighting and rejoicing in God’s promises. It may not be easy to find joy or happiness when we are going through sufferings, but we must know that we are never alone in our sufferings. The Bible says that we have the Holy Spirit with us as our comforter and that He will be with us forever. It tells us that everything we go through is meant to make us grow as individuals, in our faith, and to help others that will go through the same thing we are going through right now. 

When we delight in something, we want to spend time with it. It may be a tv show, music, the company of friends or family, a good meal, a sports show—whatever it is that brings us joy, we want to spend time doing it. Would you consider taking time daily to enjoy the word of God and His promises? To think about all the times the comfort of God gave you hope and joy during the hardest moments of your life?

As we learn to delight in the promises of God, as we learn to find joy during trials and hard times, because we know we have the promise of His eternal, faithful, comforting love—remember that God also delights in us with shouts of joy. How wonderful is His love for us!
