How To Stop Worrying

DAY 3 OF 5

What if … ?

The words “what if” are two of the most powerful words you’ll ever think. These two words have power to unlock a world of fear—or a world of hope!

Unfortunately, we can get stuck inside wondering what would happen if our worst fears came true. Sometimes, it can even be so ridiculous it’s actually funny! Check out this video for some “what if” scenarios!

So, what is the powerful side of the “what if” question? Well, when you stop placing your thoughts on what might go wrong, and instead focus on the might of God—as in God’s mighty power—then “what if” leads to hope, not fear!

  • What if things go right?

  • What if you study hard?

  • What if you pass the test?

  • What if you make a new friend?

  • What if God made you for a reason?

  • What if God is with you?

  • What if God provides peace right in the middle of a scary situation?

These powerful “what if” questions help you focus away from fear and focus on peace instead. The Bible teaches us that there’s really no need to worry about tomorrow. God’s already there. And He’s able to take care of you tomorrow, too.

Ask yourself: What’s the scariest “what if” question I wrestle with? What would happen if I truly believe that even if that scary thing happened—that God would be with me and would help me through the situation?

Challenge yourself: Stand up and look at yourself in the mirror. Say this out loud to your reflection: “What if God’s love for you is strong enough to guide you through your fears?” Every time you’re tempted to focus on dreaded “what if” fears, remind yourself of this powerful “what if” instead. Place your hope in God, not fear! God will never let you be shaken.

Pray: God, I place my hope in You because You are worth trusting. You love me. I believe You are working everything that happens to me together for my good. I don’t have to ask, “What if” about Your love. I know it is bigger than I can understand. Help me always to remember to put my trust and hope in You so I can squash fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
